What is the Do I Grind?
Do I Grind is a smartphone application that acts as a virtual therapist to screen and detects teethgrinding during the night. The key functional component relies in the measurement of the amount of teeth grinding sounds made during the night and the detection and classification of these sounds by an algorithm.
The monitor doesn’t run throughout the night.
If this occurs, please try running the app with Airplane Mode activated as some kinds of interruptions appear to affect the monitoring.
The app detects less grinding than it should.
This can occur if their is significant noise interference in the room, such as air conditioning or a fan. Do I Grind works most effectively in a quiet environment, although it can tolerate some background noise and interferences.
The recordings are distorted.
If this occurs, please contact us stating the device you are using.
The app isn’t working correctly.
Please ensure that you have the latest version of the app installed by checking for updates in the App Store. If you continue to experience problems that are not explained in these FAQs, please get in touch with us so we can investigate the problem.
Does the app collect any data?
In common with the majority of apps and websites, Do I Grind does transmit anonymous usage data that allows us to see how the app is being used, helping us to identify and fix issues, develop new features, and ultimately to create a better product for you, our users. The data we collect is truly anonymous: there is nothing that can identify an individual or a specific device (in fact, Apple and Google have locked developers out of accessing sensitive personal data). Sound recordings are stored on your device and are transmitted to the Bruxlab servers only for analysis. Apps can collect anonymous usage data under the terms of Apple’s and Google's End User Licence Agreement, the acceptance of which is a condition for downloading apps.
What if there is more than 1 loud grinder or if there is a snorer in the bed?
Unfortunately, the detection algorithm isn’t able to distinguish 1 grinder from another. The only way to be sure you are only capturing one grinder only is to only have one grinder in the room. Snoring shouldn't affect the detection of the grinding.
The sound samples are quiet, what can I do?
Try increasing the speaker volume using the volume controls on the side of your phone. We don’t apply too much gain to the recordings to keep them natural.
Will the recordings stop when I am called?
Notice: Incoming or outgoing calls during recording, are possible, but it will stop the recording, because the iPhone takes control of the microphone. So the recording gets interrupted and cannot be resumed. There is no solution, but to restart the recording manual again, even the standard Apple recorder app (by default on every iPhone) gets interrupted and can not be resumed if a call is made.
